Improvisations Gala At New Orleans Jazz Museum

The annual Improvisations Gala, now in its fifth year, takes place this December to benefit the New Orleans Jazz Museum.

The gala, sponsored by the Herb Alpert Foundation will take place at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at 400 Esplanade Avenue on Saturday, December 3, from 8 to 11 p.m.. The main event is preceded by a Patron Party from 7 to 8 p.m. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Louisiana state-owned museum, the New Orleans Jazz Museum. A preview of the projected revamping of the Old U.S. Mint, which houses the New Orleans Jazz Museum, is included in the upcoming November issue of OffBeat Magazine.

The Patron Party will be in the Decatur Street Courtyard and will feature music by the Germaine Bazzle Band with Charlie Gabriel. Food will be provided courtesy of Drago’s Seafood Restaurant, Galatoire’s, Acme Oyster House, and Dickie Brennan & Co. , with hors d’oeuvres by Messina’s Catering and Events, and cocktails provided by Beam Suntory.

A special VIP Lounge, sponsored by the Gia Maione Prima Foundation—exclusive to sponsors and patrons—will include food and a bar.

The Improvisations Gala music line-up will include Irma Thomas, Galactic featuring Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Mahmoud Chouki, Aurora Nealand, Shake ‘em Up Jazz Band, Opera Creole with Trumpet Mafia, Tim Laughlin, the Detroit Brooks Quintet, Treme Lafitte Brass Band with N’Awlins D’Awlins Baby Dolls and Big Queen Mary K. Stevenson & the Original Wild Tchoupitoulas, and many others. Performing on five stages throughout the evening, the entertainment is presented by the Jay Pritzker Foundation.

All tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite, and are $300 per person for patron level and $150 per person for general admission. Cocktail attire is encouraged; all guests must be 21 years of age or older. All proceeds will further enhance exhibits, music programming, events, and the Jazz Museum Education Center.
