Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Dark Star Orchestra Announce Jazz Fest After Shows

New Orleans Deadheads will get a double dose of… fun when Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and Dark Star Orchestra take over the Joy Theater for a series of Jazz Fest after shows.

Dark Star Orchestra will take the stage on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28, while Joe Russo’s Almost Dead are set to headline the venue on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. The two groups are widely considered to be the best acts in the Grateful Dead cover band game, so it’s safe to assume the Joy Theater will be a hotspot for the iconic American rock band’s fans during Jazz Fest 2017.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead last performed at the Joy Theater earlier this year when they held down another pair of Jazz Fest after shows. Those gigs saw guest keyboardist Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company/Furthur) fill in for Marco Benevento, who was unable to make the shows.

In related news, jam band staples moe. have also announced a three-night Jazz Fest run, with one show at Le Petit Theatre and another two at the Civic Theatre.

Tickets for Dark Star Orchestra and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s concerts will go on sale this Friday, December 9.
