Join Jesse Malin at Siberia to Fight Spiritual Gentrification

Conte-Potier 2On Wednesday, August 19th, New York glam/punk mainstay Jesse Malin will return to New Orleans for the first time in years for an intimate show at Siberia.

The former frontman of Ramones/Clash-influenced ’90s band D-Generation has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Green Day, and Bob Weir. He was also nominated for the Shortlist Music Prize.

This past March, he released his first album in five years, New York Before the War.

Praised by critics for powerful, streetwise rock anthems that recall Malin’s punk heroes, the album features notable guests Craig Klein of Hold Steady, alt-country star Alejandro Escovedo, guitarist and producer Derek Cruz, Peter Buck of R.E.M., and Wayne Kramer of seminal proto-punk group the MC5.

Lamenting the “spiritual gentrification” of New York City, Malin has explained the album as “a metaphor for surviving in an ever-changing, rapidly desensitized world, while trying to find a way to live truly… It’s a daily battle to keep the human spirit alive. Things are moving fast and forward.”

His next album, Outsiders, will be released this fall.

Doors at Siberia open at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and cover charge is $7. The Lovey Dovies, Dick Deluxe, and Bason will open.
