Kings of Leon, April 11, 2014

Specializing in straight ahead southern rock mixed in with a big shot flair that can only come from touring sold out arenas with bands as big as U2, the Kings of Leon are touring in support of their latest effort, 2013’s Mechanical Bull.

Hailing from Nashville, Caleb, Jared, Nathan, and Matthew Followill originally started as a Southern rock band but gradually evolved to a more alternative pop rock band. Their father, a preacher named Ivan Leon Followill, is the inspiration for their name.

Now with six albums and worldwide success, Kings of Leon have no problem filling arena sized venues. The band has gone back to their original Southern roots rock sound for the current tour. The album and tour have garnered critical acclaim for their ability to recapture the spark that made their early stuff so great.

At last year’s Hangout Music Festival, Caleb Followill announced from the stage that “this is the best American crowd we’ve seen in a long, long time.” The admiration was mutual.

Kings of Leon play the Smoothie King Center (formerly the New Orleans Arena) on April 11, 2014 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices vary, starting at $68.00.
