Louisiana Artists Win at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards

Louisiana musicians brought home multiple trophies from the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday night, highlighting the state’s influence across jazz, blues, gospel, Americana and roots music.

Jon Batiste won Best Americana Album for Big Money, Sullivan Fortner took Best Jazz Instrumental Album for Southern Nights, PJ Morton scored Best Gospel Album for Heart of Mine and Buddy Guy earned Best Traditional Blues Album for Ain’t Done With the Blues.

A Tribute to the King of Zydeco, the 2025 compilation honoring Louisiana accordion legend Clifton Chenier, won Best Regional Roots Music Album at the 2025 GRAMMYs. Recorded primarily at Dockside Studio in Maurice, Louisiana, and produced by Joel Savoy and Steve Berlin, the album features Louisiana and Texas accordionists including C.J. Chenier, Geno Delafose, Anthony Dopsie, Keith Frank, Steve Riley, Curley Taylor, and Nathan Williams Sr., along with washboard player Sherelle Chenier Mouton, Clifton Chenier’s grand-niece. Released just after what would have been Chenier’s 100th birthday, the album is part of a broader centennial celebration of his legacy, which included performances at Jazz Festl, events throughout South Louisiana and Washington, D.C. and a special archival release from Smithsonian Folkways and Arhoolie Records.

The celebration of Louisiana’s musical heritage this awards season comes alongside another high-profile cultural moment for the state: the hit film Sinners. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, the supernatural thriller was shot in locations across Louisiana, from Donaldsonville to St. Bernard Parish and Braithwaite, with many local businesses and extras, as well as musicians such as Beth Patterson,  participating in the production. Sinners not only set a new record this year with 16 Oscar nominations but also brought home two Grammy awards for its music.
