Lucinda Williams Wins Americana’s Album of the Year Award

Louisiana native Lucinda Williams took home the Album of the Year prize at Wednesday night’s Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony. The singer-songwriter, who was born in Lake Charles, LA, was recognized for her 2014 release Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone. The album was produced by the Williams with Tom Overby and Greg Leisz, and features a guest appearance by Bob Dylan’s son/The Wallflowers frontman Jakob Dylan.

Other winners included alt-country maverick Sturgill Simpson, who took home the Artist of the Year award, along with the Song of the Year award for his cosmic single “Turtles All the Way Down.” A series of Liftime Achievement awards also went to Don Henley (Trailblazer), Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings (Songwriting), Ricky Skaggs (Instrumentalist) and Los Lobos (Performance). Additionally, BB King was honored with a posthumous President’s Award.
