Thursdays on the Greenway are about to get a whole lot livelier as Friends of Lafitte Greenway, in collaboration with the Crescent City Farmers Market and NORD, introduces Market March Madness. Taking place every Thursday throughout the month at the Greenway Plaza & Station at 500 N. Norman C. Francis Parkway, this exciting program promises a blend of local culture, fitness, art, and sports for the community to enjoy.

Kicking off on March 7th at 3 p.m., Market March Madness will feature a diverse lineup of activities. Visitors can groove to live performances by The Roots of Music and NOCCA students, explore an art market showcasing local talent, participate in free fitness classes, catch screenings of March Madness basketball games, and even indulge in refreshments from a bar. Youngsters can also join in on a basketball clinic led by local coaches.

Alexis Marceaux, Director of Community Programming at Friends of Lafitte Greenway, expresses her excitement: “Market March Madness is a celebration of our vibrant community, bringing together local vendors, musicians, athletes, and families. We’re thrilled to offer this family-friendly event that fosters connection and joy.”

The Lafitte Greenway, a 2.6-mile multi-use trail and linear park, serves as a vital link between the French Quarter, Bayou St. John, and Mid-City. Managed by the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD), it caters to over 320,000 visitors annually, offering recreational opportunities and community engagement initiatives. The City and local communities continue to invest in its improvement, making it a cornerstone of New Orleans’ cultural and recreational landscape.

Friends of Lafitte Greenway is dedicated to ensuring that the Lafitte Greenway remains a vibrant and healthy public space, connecting people to nature, their destinations, and each other. Since 2006, the organization has been actively involved in building, programming, and promoting the Lafitte Greenway as a premier public space.

The Market March Madness schedule for each Thursday in March is as follows:

• March 7th: Featuring The Roots of Music, Camel Toe Lady Steppers, Bubble Lady Linda, art market, fitness classes, cooking demo, and a bar with Urban South beer.
• March 14th: Musical performance by Burris, a basketball clinic, fitness classes.
• March 21st: Musical performance by Vegas Cola, Marketeers Craft Station, fitness classes, LSU Agriculture Tasting Demo.
• March 28th: Featuring NOCCA Jazz Ensemble performance, Bubble Lady Linda, cooking demo, a bar with Urban South beer, fitness classes.
