Musician and luthier Don Moser has been creating one-of-a-kind, playable pieces of art for years. He will present a one-night concert titled The Nite Tripper Guitar Comes Home at Tipitina’s in tribute to the late Mac Rebbenack, a.k.a. Dr. John and The Nite Tripper, one of the most influential musicians from New Orleans over the past century.

The event will be held at Tipitina’s on September 30, 2021. Doors will open at 8 p.m., and the show will begin at 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance / $32 day of show.

Moser’s work is on display in establishments such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and The National Museum of African-American History and Culture at the Smithsonian Institute. The Nite Tripper Guitar will be the next Don Moser creation to have a historical home. It will be enshrined at Tipitina’s in a handmade case that serves as an impressive piece of art itself.

“Dr. John changed the whole game,” said Moser in explaining his inspiration for The Nite Tripper. “Nothing would ever be the same. I had to build this one. My guitars were in some of today’s top institutions and now it was time for one to return to the dirt, and what better place then Tipitina’s!” 

The musical director for the evening will be Leo Nocentelli, founding member of The Meters and Lifetime Achievement Grammy recipient. The concert will also feature some of New Orleans finest guitar players, including Dave Malone (The Radiators), Renard Pochè (Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Allen Toussaint) and June Yamagishi (Papa Grows Funk, The Wild Magnolias).

A portion of the proceeds for the night will benefit New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, an organization that Dr. John supported wholeheartedly. The New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic has provided medical care to musicians and performing artists in New Orleans for more than 20 years.
