National Geographic Announces “NEW ORLEANS: City of Stories” Program

Word on the street is National Geographic is up to more than cheetah prey footage these days. The network is launching a new custom travel block, a series of hour-long specials “that focus on remarkable destination around the world.” The first installment in the series will be… drum roll… NEW ORLEANS: CITY OF STORIES. In partnership with the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, the special will launch on Monday, April 23 at 6 p.m. EST on National Geographic in celebration of the city’s 300th birthday.

The feature will explore the diverse culture of the Crescent City, giving viewers a sneak peek into what it is that makes life here so special. The special will introduce the world to NOLA locals, meeting the “people that give New Orleans its vibrant atmosphere and enthusiasm, including musicians, accomplished artists, community leaders, artisans, bartenders and historians.” The program aims to show all the different sides of New Orleans: music, food, drinks, arts, and the efforts community leaders are making to carry on the magic today. “This is a city like no other and its authenticity comes shining through as locals share their stories about what makes New Orleans so unique”, said Kimberly Connaghan, VP global partnerships, National Geographic Partners.

National Geographic’s travel line-up will continue with further programming on destinations including Asheville, North Carolina and San Diego, California. The network hopes to share the best of the world’s most unique cities and inspire viewers to channel their wanderlust…. Kicking off, of course, with the Big Easy.
