National Underwear Day Parade Announces Route Change

New Orleans’ first-ever National Underwear Day Parade is ready to roll this weekend, but the organizers have announced a few changes to the celebration’s itinerary.

As previously reported, the event will make its way through New Orleans’ Bywater neighborhood on the night of Friday, August 5.

The parade, which is hosted by Krewe of Chewbacchus Space Commander Ryan S Ballard and Society of Sin founder Xena Zeit-Geist, was originally supposed to lineup at Washington Square. However, the organizers have decided to move the lineup to the backyard of Castillo Blanco, a large Bywater art studio that serves as, among other things, the headquarters of the Krewe of Chewbacchus.

This won’t be your ordinary pre-parade gathering either. The people behind the event hope to set a new Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Only Underpants/Knickers.” Participants are asked to meet at Castillo Blanco for the lineup/world record count at 6pm, with the parade set to roll at 7pm.

Organizers also hope to donate 1,000 undergarments to the New Orleans Mission, a local homeless shelter. Attendees are asked to help them achieve this goal by bringing new underwear, panties and bras with them to the parade lineup.

After swinging through much of the neighborhood, the Underwear Day Parade will return to Castillo Blanco for The Free Ball, a party that will feature performances from the Society of Sin and Dohm Collective. In keeping with its name, the ball will be free and open to the public.
