New Orleans Children’s Chorus announces registration for 2021-22 season

The New Orleans Children’s Chorus (NOCC) will open registration for new singers starting on August 2. No audition is required.

NOCC will celebrate its 40th anniversary season in 2022. The NOCC choirs have presented concerts in Italy, Ireland, Canada, Washington D.C., and Disney World. The concert chorus and alumni will be performing in New York at Carnegie Hall with a professional orchestra on Memorial Day 2022 under the direction of Executive/Artistic Director Cheryl Dupont.

The choirs are open to all young people of the metropolitan area, ages 5 to 16. No special talent or experience is required. NOCC finds a place for any young person who wants to sing. The choirs bring together young people for a fun-filled and exciting musical experience, directed by highly skilled music professionals in a convenient location.

The 2021 -2022 season starts the Monday after Labor Day and runs through the early May. This season will include a Broadway concert with choirs and individual singers performing show tunes, as well as our regular Winter Concert and Spring Concerts. Weekly rehearsals are held on Monday at different times, all after
4 p.m. beginning on Monday, September 13 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd.

NOCC was originally affiliated with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The founding director was Susan Wyatt. Cheryl Dupont began directing the Youth Chorale in 1984 and the Concert Chorus in 1987. After taking over as director of the Children’s Chorus, she affiliated the two choirs and formed a nonprofit corporation. The NOCC choirs are the Concert Chorus, Lyric Chorus, Youth Chorale and Songbirds. The Concert Chorus is the main touring chorus of NOCC.
