DJ Big C: LET THE GOOD TIMES REAUXLL VOL.6 (Independent)
A collection of 504 club tracks breaking down hip-hop and R&B into danceable house cuts.

Mark Bingham: William Blake in Bakersfield (Nouveau Electric Records)
Smooth country with twangy lap-steel and light fiddling about unusual subjects like Franz Kafka, William Blake and ancient history.

Cigar Box Serenaders: Spasm (Independent)
Homemade instruments like a cigar box banjo, violin, guitar and resonator with a wine box drum set and dresser drawer bass produce folksy jazz.

Crapstacks: The King of Rock Show (Independent)
An insane live show recording at Gasa Gasa where “vocalist” and deranged old man Flip Fitch antagonizes the crowd, abuses his band and eventually wrestles his guitarist to the ground before storming off during the final song.

Jesse Davis: Live at Small’s Jazz Club (Cellar Music Group)
An alto-sax virtuoso, Jesse Davis’ latest album pulls elements of ’50s era jazz with rock-steady rhythms, gratifying solos and tight melodies.

Ben Fox: Ben’s Bop (Bigtone Records)
Normally gigging at Fritzels on Bourbon Street, bassist Ben Fox and his quartet released this ode to classic bebop jazz.

Galactic: Tchompitoulas (Tchoup-Zilla Records)
New Galactic EP brings their unique brand of New Orleans-inspired funk and jam with appearances by Eric Biddines, Eric Gordon, Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph and Cimafunk.

JETSETGIOGIO: nocturnecore ep (Independent)
A weird blend of EDM mixing trillwave, techno, hip-hop and other flavors of electronic underground music into a tight package.

New Orleans Synth Cult: Live at Breakaways 1-14-23 (Independent)
Ambient synth music performed live at Breakaways for an extremely long and bizarre electronic album.

Anuraag Pendyal: solo originals vol. 1 (Independent)
New Orleans R&B parody with slam poetry-esque vocals touching on everything from NOLA’s unique position in the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and flashmobs robbing Whole Foods.

Wastelander: Out of Spite Out of Mind (Independent)
Alternative rock with a touch of country twang, punk edge, jazzy rhythm and metal shredding.

Singles – New Releases in New Orleans (1/23/23)

Anareta: Locality
Orchestral metal with classical strings and percussion corrupted by purulent guitar and screaming resulting in an elegant metal track like a 14th-century Gothic cathedral burning to the ground.

The Crooked Vines: Future Lives
A couple R&B/funk tracks, the first a heart-strings-tugging ballad about self-love and the second, a triumphant soul song to get you out of your seat.

Mike Dillon: Apocalypse Day Dream
A playful percussive track led by Dillon’s jazz-infused vibraphone.

Gaines: Heart Attack
An autotune ballad over swirling synths and a fuzzy trap beat.

RanCoffiN: Plus de mort, mieux c’est
Relentless, crusty black metal with hypnotic effects.

Rathbone: C.R.E.A.M
More bedroom pop from Rathbone with a very clear message and clean guitar work.

Sam Sarah: It’s Lonely Among Men
Early 2000s math-rock band Sam Sarah returns with two loud, sorrowful emo tracks.

Sari’s Longtime: Ruby Reds
Pretty funk with feel-good, neo-soul that sounds (and looks like) a date in Audobon park.
