NOMA Celebrating Centennial Saturday

NOMA: New Orleans Museum of Art Centennial Kickoff Celebration

Fine art has been around for centuries, and its shrine in New Orleans has now been around for one. The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is celebrating its 100th anniversary this Saturday, January 8 with their Centennial Kickoff Celebration.

NOMA was founded in 1911 when local businessman Isaac Delgado offered $150,000 to the City Park Commission to create a “temple of art for rich and poor alike.” A century later, the museum still attracts art lovers from all over the world, and ranks among the top art museums in the country.

The entertainment for the Centennial will include performances from St. Augustine’s marching band, the Schramel Conservatory of Dance, and the New Orleans Opera Association. The Kickoff begins at NOMA in City Park at 10 a.m. and runs through 4:30 p.m, with the day’s schedule amended for consideration to the Saints’ opening playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. Admission for the day is free. For more information and the day’s full schedule of events, head over to NOMA100.com.
