You Do Not Have to Watch Benny Grunch & The Bunch’s “12 Yats of Christmas”

You do not have to watch this video of Benny Grunch & The Bunch’s “12 Yats of Christmas.”

Sure, you could watch it. But you do not have to. There is no law that says residents of Southeast Louisiana must watch Benny Grunch & The Bunch’s “12 Yats of Christmas,” a hyper-regional reimagining of “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” every December from now until the end of time.

Most residents of Southeast Louisiana have already seen Benny Grunch & The Bunch’s “12 Yats of Christmas.” Most of them have seen it many times.

This is not to say that you cannot, or should not, watch it again. You absolutely could. It’s right there at the bottom of this page, after all.

But again, you do not have to.

You do not have to listen to Benny Grunch & The Bunch’s “12 Yats of Christmas,” a bonafide New Orleans classic that was originally recorded in 1990. You do not have to watch its accompanying video, which frequently appeared on the late Frank Davis’ “Naturally N’Awlins” segments on WWL-TV.

You do not have to host a “12 Yats of Christmas”-themed meal, in which you serve breakfast food during lunchtime, at your home. You do not even have to call this meal Benny Grunch & The Brunch.

Nope, you don’t have to do any of that. But of course, you could.

Happy Holidays.
