French Quarter Festival

French Quarter Festival, the largest free celebration of Louisiana’s music, food, and culture, returns Thursday April 11 – Sunday 14 throughout the French Quarter. With over 270 performances on 21 stages, the festival promises a vibrant showcase of Louisiana’s diverse musical landscape. Highlights include performances from iconic musicians such as Irma Thomas, Ivan Neville and Little Freddie King, as well as 40+ debut acts like Teedra Moses and The Original Pinettes with Mia X. On Thursday, April 11, from 8 – 10 p.m., join Loose Cattle and Duquette Johnston at Chickie Wah Wah. Loose Cattle offers their exciting fusion of Southern rock and harmony-drenched folk ballads while Duquette Johnston, a founding member of the breakout 90s indie band Verbena, will share new music from his latest album, “The Social Animals” characterized by lush soundscapes and introspective reflections. Lynn Drury‘s highly anticipated album release party celebrating her latest work, “High Tide” is at The Maple Leaf on Saturday, April 13th. Produced by Papa Mali, known for his work with Ruthie Foster and 7 Walkers, the album features Papa on lead guitar which provides the perfect backdrop to Drury’s unique NOLAmericana style. Experience an enchanting evening of French song, Belgian poetry, and captivating storytelling with Helen Gillet, hailed as “a whirling dervish of the cello,” as she takes the stage at Marigny Opera House on Saturday, April 13th at 8 p.m. to perform music from her latest album “Rebelle.” Paying homage to Belgian Poet Julos Beaucarne and French Avant Garde Chanteuse Brigitte Fontaine, Gillet will showcase her mastery of the cello, loop pedal and vocals. Joined by Doug Garrison on drums, Alex McMurray on guitar and Rex Gregory on saxophone, clarinet and flute, this cello-led electronic folk rock ensemble promises a spellbinding performance.
