Oktoberfest Returns to Kenner This Weekend

The German spirit will come to Kenner’s Rivertown for three consecutive weekends during this month’s Oktoberfest celebration. Hosted by Deutches Haus, the event will bring German food, music and beer to the neighborhood each Friday and Saturday from October 9 to October 24.

11229550_1112289218805960_5281085016631253555_nThe festivities will kick off at at 6pm on October 9, when Kenner Mayor Michael S. Yenni taps the first beer keg. The 5krun/walk will be helf on Saturday. October 10, while the fourth annual Dachsund Dash will take place on Saturday, October 24. The Kinderchor children’s choir will also perform on October 24, and a beer stein holding contest will be held each Saturday.

“We are more than excited for some new additions this year,” said Theresa Crosby, the Deutsches Haus’ new executive director. “We are adding some local flavor with a performance by the 610 Stompers and Disco Amigos, as well as great food by Uptown’s popular St. James Cheese Company and freshly baked 12-inch Pretzels by a new local company, ASAP Pretzels, served with a side of beer cheese sauce or your favorite mustard. We also have a new historical exhibit.”

Other performers include yoderlers Yodel Blitz, traditional German and Apline music group Das Ist Lustig and polka beat muscians Off the Grid Band, as well as German bands The Bräts, Prost, dixie Hofkapelle and Der Gluten Tag Hop Cloppers.

Aditionally, Oktoberfest will feature a variety fo traditional German entrees, along with 16 different German beers.
