Overlook horror film fest to air online as part of nationwide NIGHTSTREAM

The Overlook Film Festival, which touts itself as a celebration of all thing horror in America’s most haunted city, will participate in NIGHTSTREAM, a collective online initiative supporting American genre festivals.

Due to the pandemic, a traditional film festival in which movie-goers sit in a theater is untenable. NIGHTSTREAM is partnering with the Boston Underground Film Festival (MA), Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (NY), North Bend Film Festival (WA), the Overlook Film Festival (LA), and Popcorn Frights Film Festival (FL) to provide cinephiles with an opportunity to see the films from the safety of home.

Running October 8 through 11, NIGHTSTREAM will provide the filmmakers and other showcased artists with proceeds from pass sales while also donating to charities, causes and small businesses in each of the festival’s native cities. Despite the drastic changes in venues, attendees can still expect a film-festival experience, with live events, panels, masterclasses and more.

In a letter of intent, organizers of the Overlook Film Festival said, “As the COVID-19 crisis continues to alter our collective lives in a myriad of unprecedented and increasingly disastrous ways, its impact on the industry we love is all too apparent. Amidst forced festival cancellations and upended film releases, we felt an overwhelming need to come together and join forces to present a first-class film experience for the larger genre community this Halloween season. The challenges posed this year are immense, but so too is our desire to remind our fans of the thrill, amusement, and wonder of discovering new movies, even from home. The genre film community is not defined by our physical proximity to theaters. It is our love of film in all its forms that binds us and will continue to keep us close. Now is the time to reimagine the future of festivals, our future, and what can be achieved through cinema. Let’s do it together.”

Pass Holders for the 2020 Overlook Film Festival will receive full refunds. Film lovers are encouraged to purchase badges to NIGHTSTREAM, which provide access not only to the Overlook selections but also the other festivals, which feature international horror, fantasy, sci-fi, vanguard, and underground films.
