Ozone Songwriters Festival now accepting applications for songwriter contest

This October, Mandeville will host the 1st Annual Ozone Songwriter Festival, which will feature over 70 national and regional performers on three stages. It will also celebrate emergent songwriters with a competition.

Festival organizers have announced they are accepting submissions from songwriters interested in entering a competition. According to a press release, the grand-prize winner will receive a co-writing session with renowned songwriter and Ozone Songwriter Festival and Education Foundation President, Greg Barnhill, and will also receive an afternoon recording session at Rabadash Recording Studio in Covington. The second place prize is an Epiphone acoustic guitar personally autographed by a well-known country music star. The third place winner receives a $100 gift certificate for Lanier Music.

Originality, song structure, memorability and talent will be components in the judging process. To enter, applicants must pay a non-refundable $20 entrance fee per song, submit songs electronically in MP3 format through the link at OzoneMusic.org, include a lyric sheet and short bio. Of course, songs must be wholly original and the names of all co-writers must be included. Up to three songs may be submitted by each contestant.

“Only amateur songwriters (including co-writers) are allowed to submit entries to the competition,” say organizers. “For competition purposes, amateur is defined as anyone who has never had any song they wrote appear on any of the Billboard charts. Entrant will retain all ownership rights to their submitted songs, and “OZONE” will not have any ownership rights to any submitted song.”
