Percy Sledge Dies at his Home in Baton Rouge

Legendary R&B singer Percy Sledge has passed away at his home in Baton Rouge at the age of 73.

Sledge, best known for his 1966 classic “When a Man Loves a Woman,” had been receiving hospice care before passing away early this morning of natural causes, according to the Associated Press.

A native of Alabama, Sledge settled in Baton Rouge, where he spent most of his life.

A 2007 inductee into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, Sledge released dozens of singles and albums during his career, the last of which was 2013’s The Gospel of Percy Sledge.
