Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the New Orleans Jazz Market in Central City on February 25, 2014. Mayfield was joined by a host of city leaders, elected officials, and fellow musicians as he celebrated what will soon be a 14,000 square foot facility dedicated to preserving and promoting jazz.

Singer Dee Dee Bridgewater joined Ellis Marsalis on piano and Mayfield on trumpet for a short performance at the end of the ceremony, just steps away from legendary 102-year-old trumpeter Lionel Ferbos.

The New Orleans Jazz Market, located on the corner of Oretha Castle Haley and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards in Central City in the former Gators department store building, is slated to open in 2015.
