PJ Morton announces new album coming this April; watch the trailer here

This morning PJ Morton took to social media to announce the release of his new album, Watch The Sun. The album will be released via his own Morton Records. Since 2017, Morton has released a series of six self-produced LPs, earned five Grammy nominations and three wins. The artist says that Watch The Sun was his opportunity to “take a step back from it all.”

The artist made it his mission to escape any and all outside voices. To record, Morton ventured deep into Bogalusa, Louisiana, home of the storied and secluded Studio In The Country. The studio is where Stevie Wonder worked on 1979’s Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants, and artists like Allen Toussaint, Betty Davis, Dr. John and many others have all recorded.

“With the world changing so quickly in the last couple years, it called for a bunch of reflection,” Morton said. “I reflected on what I wanted to change in my life. What I wanted to keep the same. What was left to say as an artist. I think these last couple years taught us to identify what is truly important. It was important for me to tell an honest story on this album. The album is an unapologetically soulful painting about the true challenges in life and love.”

The track list and more will be revealed ahead of the album’s release on April 29, but the record includes the previously released “Please Don’t Walk Away,” which PJ Morton recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, plus his new collaboration with JoJo and Mr. Talkbox, “My Peace.”
