Port Orleans Brewing Co. launches nonprofit to provide meals for service industry workers

Port Orleans Brewing’s new nonprofit provides meals for service industry workers

Port Orleans Brewing Co. has partnered with NATCO Food Service, Louisiana Fresh Produce, and Blue Runner Red Beans to provide freshly prepared meals available for pick-up for service industry workers affected by COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. Free meals are offered to those in need who are unable to work during these unprecedented times.

The money raised through POB United goes towards purchasing stock and produce from NATCO, Louisiana Fresh, and Blue Runner, as well as keeping local chefs employed. Local chefs and their teams are employed by Port Orleans Brewing to cook the meals, which will assist in maintaining the incomes of chefs in New Orleans while simultaneously providing meals for those in need. Approximately 500 free meals will be given out every Wednesday and Friday through the end of May.

The mission of this non-profit is to support and give back to the service industry: “With overwhelming support from community partners and friends, we have started at local non-profit, POB United, to help support our service industry,” said owner of Port Orleans Brewing Co., Zach Strief. “I am grateful to be able to provide some assistance to those who have given so much of themselves to make New Orleans what is it today—a city full of love and hospitality.”

The free meals are available for pick up every Wednesday and Friday through May from 12 pm to 4 pm at Port Orleans Brewing Company, located at 4124 Tchoupitoulas St.
