Preservation Hall Foundation Honors Elder Musicians Tonight

Tonight the Preservation Hall Foundation will induct four elder musicians into its legacy program. The program, which started in 2015, was created to help aging musicians with financial help, emergency health care, dental needs, parking, yard maintenance and bereavement services. The PHF has already distributed over $150,000 in direct financial stipends to musicians.

Liftetime Achievement awards for dedication to the traditional New Orleans jazz community will be awarded to Daniel Farrow (saxophonist), Benny Jones (bass and snare drummer), Maynard Chatters (trombonist, vocalist and music teacher) and Ernie Ely (jazz drummer). All recipients are over 70 years of age and still actively perform at Preservation Hall.

The award confers a monthly stipend and signifies that these musicians will participate in Foundation education and outreach activities as they are able.

The award ceremony is free and open to the public.
