Record Release Concert Video from the Write Brothers Coming This Month

André Bohren has announced a record release concert for the Write Brothers album Into the Sky, which was released last April via Threadhead Records.  The band, made up of Alex McMurray, Paul Sanchez, Jim McCormick, and the late Spencer Bohren, was unable to do a “proper gig to celebrate the release,” says the younger Bohren, who will be standing in for his father who passed away in June 2019.  “We filmed a set in a French Quarter courtyard and are presenting it as a ticketed concert,” he explains. The event will air Saturday, January 23 at 7 p.m. CST.

Last year, OffBeat‘s John Swenson reviewed the album and wrote: “Spencer Bohren came from the open sky and the cold hard realities of prairie fundamentalism. His early life was a routine of relentless sun, strong winds, drenching rains and miracle springs after dusky winters that froze your soul. Surrounded by God’s creation and the abundance of nature, he grew within a discipline meant to keep the darkness outside of the campfire’s glow at bay. But Spencer was always attracted to the mysterious shadows beyond the safety of the firelight, compelled to plumb their secrets. Maybe that’s why he became one of America’s premier storytellers, a soul whose imagination was animated by the strains of desire that could not be contained within churchyard philosophy.”

The concert has been previously recorded in the courtyard of B Mac’s in the French Quarter, the “unofficial headquarters for the Threadheads.” Mike Mayeux was hired to film and record the set.

“Like everyone else, we are all scrambling to figure out how to play shows during COVID, and this seemed like a fun way to play the songs together at a place we love, and present it in a way that looks and sounds good, plus we are able to still interact with an audience via cutting to a live feed,” adds Bohren.

Your ticket purchase gets you a link to the concert, plus the opportunity for a Q&A with the Writes. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased by through Venmo @Alexander-McMurray-1 or PayPal [email protected]. Note: Include “Write Bros 1/23” in the subject and include a working email address so the band can send you the link. For more information, click here.
