Roots of Music Big 15 Gala Planned for Friday

The Roots of Music will host The Big 15 Gala this Friday at The Sazerac House, 101 Magazine Street. The Patron Party begins at 7 p.m. followed by the Gala at 8 p.m. Proceeds will be used to continue their mission of servicing the youth of New Orleans through music, mentorship and academic enrichment and achievement.

For the last 15 years The Roots of Music has provided programming five days a week, 12 months a year, to more than 250 young people, delivering over 2,500 hours of music education and academic tutoring, over 30,400 nutritious hot meals, 1,400 bus journeys, and supplying over 150 instruments for student use. The Roots of Music continues to serve the youth of New Orleans ages 4 to 15 providing music history, music theory as well as instrumental instruction and ensemble performance preparation to youth of the city from low-income households. To combat common barriers to participation students receive hot meals, round trip transportation, tutoring, mental health services, and mentorship.

The Big 15 Gala will include live entertainment by Roots Studio Academy, The Roots of Music Marching Crusaders and The Nayo Jones Experience, followed by a second line led by Re-Creations Brass Band, which includes current and former Roots students. There will be food and beverages by Messina’s and a silent auction featuring unique and priceless items.
