Juvenile and The Roots of Music Partner for Taste-Testing Event

The Roots of Music, the non-profit organization founded by Derrick Tabb in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2007, will partner with local rapper Juvenile to host a taste-testing event celebrating music and the city’s cultural heritage. “Juvenile’s 400 Degrees Tasting” will occur on Thursday, September 14, at 6 p.m., at 1020 N. Prieur St., New Orleans.

Derrick Tabb, along with Allison Reinhardt, established The Roots of Music in 2007 as an after-school initiative rooted in the belief that music possesses the potential to impact lives profoundly. This organization is dedicated to empowering the young population of New Orleans by providing them with music education, academic assistance, and valuable mentorship, all while safeguarding and championing the city’s distinctive musical and cultural legacy. In recognition of his contributions to music education, Tabb received OffBeat‘s Best of the Beat Award in 2010 while the organization was previously named a finalist for the Lewis Prize For Music.

Adding to the excitement of this event is the presence of Juvenile, the prominent New Orleans native rapper. Juvenile has had a remarkable year, marked by a viral performance on Tiny Desk with Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty and Mannie Fresh and an appearance at ESSENCE Fest, cementing his status as a veteran figure in the New Orleans music industry.
