Saxophonist James Martin to Play Publiq House, Superdome This Weekend

On Friday (November 16), burgeoning saxophonist James Martin will play Freret Street’s Publiq House. Last year, Martin netted a Best of The Beat nomination in the Best Saxophone category for his playing on his solo album Blue. Highlights from it include a zesty, Latin-tinged take on Ernie K-Doe’s “A Certain Girl” and the lounge-y, soul-funk original “Set Yourself Free,” a tune Martin penned during his stint in Trombone Shorty’s Orleans Avenue. Since stepping away from Shorty’s band in 2008, Martin has focused on sharpening his skills as songwriter and a producer and honing his chops as a player and a singer. Outside of his solo endeavors, Martin has can be seen blowing his horn in current OffBeat cover subject Glen David Andrews‘ band.
