Local music nonprofit Second Line Arts Collective (SLAC) celebrates its 10-year anniversary of both the organization and its founding program, the Sanaa Music Workshop, the first program of its kind in New Orleans. SLAC merges artistic excellence with entrepreneurial training, giving young artists (ages 14 to 24) the tools needed for success by developing musical expertise. The difference is that SLAC’s mission is to build true, sustainable careers for musicians.
The 2026 Sanaa Workshop takes place June 8 through 19, with the final performance on June 19 (7 p.m.) at the Ellis Marsalis Center.
SLAC focuses on music education from “recess to record deals,” fostering an early love for music (through its Little Stompers Family Classes) and extends opportunities through the Sanaa Music Workshop to equip the next generation of musicians with skills for artistic growth and career longevity.
For 10 years, under the leadership of clarinetist Gregory Agid, Sanaa has brought together some of New Orleans’ most dedicated young musicians for an intensive experience rooted in artistic excellence, mentorship and real-world career development.
In celebration of the 10-year anniversary, the organization is thrilled to welcome Sanaa alum Brian Richburg (who attended the workshop 2017-2019) as the 2026 Guest Artist. An accomplished drummer, producer and composer, Brian’s journey reflects exactly what Sanaa is about: developing young artists who grow, thrive and invest in the next generation. Brian received scholarships to both Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School, and has since performed and recorded with an impressive list of artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Jon Batiste, Chief Adjuah, Moses Sumney, Jack Harlow, Joss Stone, Donald Harrison Jr., Ellis Marsalis, Cautious Clay and Samora Pinderhughes, among others.
