Southern Screen opens submissions for its 2020 film festival

Southern Screen has begun accepting film submissions for its annual festival which will be held November 12-15 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The festival highlights storytelling through various artistic mediums such as film, music, podcasts, and educational programming.

Southern Screen accepts a wide range of submissions, including narrative features, documentaries, short films, animations, music videos, web series, TV pilots, student films, and more. Submissions opened online on March 15 and will remain open until the final deadline on July 15. There are submission fees depending on the project size and date of submission. The price of submission for a film less than 40 minutes is $20 and for films longer than 40 minutes, the fee is $30 until April 15. After April 15, fees will go up until June 15.

Southern Screen is a non-profit arts organization that promotes and praises artists and the work they create across all different mediums. The festival seeks to spotlight artists of all kinds who create works that tell stories and invoke the stories in others. Artists have the opportunity to showcase their work in an inclusive, non-competitive space as well as experience screenings, live music, workshops, networking events, parties, and more. Through the unique, interactive experiences artists participate in throughout the festival, the mission of Southern Screen is made clear: to expand the artistic boundaries of traditional arts festivals and give the arts community an open platform to share their work and inspire others.

The 2020 Southern Screen Festival will celebrate its tenth year this year. The festival has become a cherished regional event by artists because of the festival’s non-competitive nature that gives artists the space to showcase their work and inspire discussion. At past festivals, highly-regarded professional actors and actresses have attended and participated in viewings and submission dialogue, such as Alison Becker (“Parks and Recreation”), producer Monty Ross (“Malcolm X”), Javier Marcheselli (“Blade Runner 2049”), and more.
