That said, jazz enthusiasts and music lovers in New Orleans are in for a treat as the New Orleans Jazz Centennial announced its semi-annual Jazz @ The Sandbar (UNO) Spring Concert schedule. This long-running and popular concert series, hosted by the University of New Orleans (UNO), promises an exciting lineup of performances every Wednesday at 7:00pm from March through May at The Cove on the UNO Campus.

The concert series kicks off on March 22 with a tribute to the late Ellis Marsalis Jr. by jazz drummer Herlin Riley. The following week, on March 29, Detroit-based jazz bassist Rodney Whitaker will take the stage. On April 5, Leon Anderson—a local percussion legend who currently is the Director of Jazz Studies at Florida State University—will make a much-awaited return to his hometown. Pianist Victor Atkins performs on April 12, followed by vocalist Cindy Scott on April 19. On April 26, Chicago/New York-based trumpeter Maurice “MoBetta” Brown will showcase his talents.

The series will conclude on May 3 with a performance by saxophonist Nicole Glover, all the way from Portland, Oregon. The UNO Jazz Studies Senior Recitals will take place on May 10. All concerts will be held at The Sandbar, located in The Cove at the UNO Campus.
