Stanton Moore & Friends
To Lead Blue Nile Re-Opening

If the thick curtains that make peeking impossible are any indication, the new, remodeled Blue Nile music club on Frenchmen Street is special enough to be kept under wraps. And the club will certainly have a high-profile re-opening this Friday;

The Blue Nile - a staple music club on Frenchmen Street spent the summer re-modeling.

Kermit Ruffins and his Barbeque Swingers will return to their regular early-evening gig at 7 p.m., then Stanton Moore will lead an all-star, one-time band dubbed the Blue Nile Grand Re-Opening Band. Confirmed names include Living Colour bassist Doug Wimbish and Grammy-winning trumpeter Maurice Brown; it’s a safe bet that more notable names will jump aboard and the funk will flow.In addition, DJ Real and Black Pearl will return to hold court upstairs in the balcony room until the wee hours.

The club has a full slate of shows for September including Washboard Chaz Blues Trio, Eric Lindell & the Sunliners and Soul Project (9/10), the Brass-a-Holics (9/14), Chris Mule & the Perpetrators (9/17), Corey Henry’s Treme Funktet (9/21), Big Sam’s Funky Nation (9/27), Marco Benevento Trio (9/28), and To Be Continued Brass Band (9/29). Kermit Ruffins and Washboard Chaz will continue their weekly early evening residencies through the month, respectively on each Friday and Saturday.
