Organizers of the South by Southwest festival (SXSW) have announced the cancellation of this year’s sprawling event in Austin, Texas.
The city’s Mayor Steve Adler, Judge Sarah Eckhardt, Dr. Mark Escott of the Interim Health Authority and Austin Public Health Director Stephanie Hayden, made the announcement.
“Factors such as the close proximity of participants and attendance of international guests led officials to cancel the event entirely,” the report comtinues, adding Adler’s statement that “SXSW and the City wanted to do whatever was in the best interest of the health of the public and community.”
