Sync Up Conference Announces Lineup

Mack Maine, Daniel Glass and the founder of Pandora are among the speakers at this year’s Sync Up, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation’s annual pre-Jazz Fest music-related business conference.

Sync Up will once again take place at the New Orleans Museum of Art on the mornings before the Fridays and Saturdays of Jazz Fest—April 27 and 28 and May 4 and 5&mash;and this year Pandora’s Tim Westergren will be interviewed by newsman Norman Robinson. Young Money president Mack Maine will also speak, as will Ralph Simon of the Zomba Music Group, Daniel Glass of Glassnote Records (who signed Mumford and Sons and GIVERS). Other speakers include Jeffrey Merrihue, founder and CEO of MOFILM, Ted Kurland of the jazz booking agency Ted Kurland Associates, Tom Windish of the rock/electronica/rap agency The Windish Group, and Tony van Veen, the head of Disc Makers and CD Baby.

This year, Sync Up will add Sync Up Cinema, a series of films screened at NOMA on April 30 and May 1. The lineup includes:

The Academy Award-winning The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Lawrence Lessmore, produced by Moonbot Studios in Shreveport, which won the Oscar for best animated short film.

Excerpts from Beasts of the Southern Wild, which took the Grand Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival

Tchoupitoulas, the latest film from the producers of Beasts of the Southern Wild and a big hit at the 2012 SXSW film festival.

Big Easy Express, the documentary of the railroad trip by Mumford & Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros on their way to New Orleans and the 2011 Jazz Fest.

Live at Preservation Hall: Louisiana Fairytale, the Danny Clinch documentary about the collaboration between Preservation Hall and My Morning Jacket.
