T Marie and Bayou Juju Blend Tradition & Original Sound on Debut Studio Album

T Marie and Bayou Juju are channeling the spirit of South Louisiana into their debut studio album, Queen Like a Bee, a genre-spanning release that fuses Cajun, Creole, Zydeco, swamp pop, country, blues and New Orleans R&B.

Released in March and continuing to circulate across streaming platforms, the album captures both the band’s reverence for tradition and its commitment to evolving the region’s sound. Recorded at Marigny Studios and Blue Velvet Studios in New Orleans, Queen Like a Bee blends original songwriting with reinterpretations of traditional material rooted in generations of Louisiana music.

Original tracks like “Queen Like a Bee,” “Rooster,” “If,” and “Louisiana Avenue” explore themes ranging from personal resilience and community to violence, joy, and survival, all anchored in distinctly local sonic traditions. The album also features reinterpretations of classics such as “Bosco Stomp,” “Madeleine,” and Bobby Charles’ “Save Me Jesus,” the latter reimagined with a gospel-influenced arrangement featuring members of the First Grace Church choir.

Like the band’s previous live recordings, the project reflects the influence of its audience—what T Marie describes as the “dance team”—whose energy and participation have helped shape the evolution of the songs over time.

Queen Like a Bee is available now on all major streaming platforms.
