Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ will bring their collaborative project to New Orleans

Blues guitar greats Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ will bring their collaborative tour to New Orleans this fall. Billed as The Taj Mahal & Keb’ Mo’ Band, the group will perform at the Orpheum Theater on Sunday, September 24.

Last week, the pair announced the release date for their highly-anticipated joint album, TajMo. The 12 track effort features a mix of new material and covers of artists like John Mayer and The Who, as well as cameos from Bonnie Raitt, Joe Walsh, Sheila E. and Lizz Wright.

“He’s a stellar human being, just a brilliant man,” Keb’ says of Taj, who first saw him play at a high school assembly. “Making this record was a really big deal for me.”

“Keb’s really good at keeping the ball up in the air,” Taj notes. “He’s a hell of a guitar player, and I’m just amazed at some of the stuff that he put out there.”

While the two guitarists have known each other for decades, the upcoming album marks their first proper studio collaboration. It was self-produced by the two blues masters, and was recorded by Zach Allen, John Caldwell and Casey Wasner at Nashville’s Stu Stu Studio.

TajMo is due out Friday, May 5 via Concord Records, but the pair have already released “Don’t Leave Me Here,” a brand new original that was co-written by the two of them
