Tank and the Bangas to Perform at Joy Theater

After an impressive Jazz Fest performance this weekend, New Orleans-based musical group Tank and the Bangas are now set to perform live at the Joy Theater on Thursday, May 4, at 9 p.m.

Tank and the Bangas first came to national attention when they won the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest. Since then, they have been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and have released three studio albums, including Thinktank, Green Balloon, and their most recent release, Red Balloon. The group has also recently gone viral for their poem, “DM Pretty” which has been trending on TikTok.

The band’s unique style is a fusion of funk, soul, hip-hop, rock, and spoken word. They draw inspiration from various genres, including rock, folk, gospel, and even Soulful Disney, a genre invented by band member Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph. In an interview with the Times-Picayune, the band members described their sound as “childlike” and “magical.”

The Joy Theater is ideal for Tank and the Bangas’ performance. The theater, located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, has been a fixture of the city’s arts and culture scene since it was first built in 1947 and provides an intimate viewing environment for those in attendance.

The group’s live performances are known for their high energy and engaging stage presence. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster now.
