TERRY REID AT ONE EYED JACK’S

Terry Reid is probably most famous for something he didn’t do: He didn’t come running when Jimmy Page called in 1968, wanting a lead singer for the hot new band he was putting together; Reid recommended his younger and lesser-known friend Robert Plant instead. At the time Reid was  known as one of England’s most promising blue-eyed soulmen, so he had good reason to focus on his solo career (he had a UK hit a year later with this track).. He’s remained a cult artist over the years, releasing albums very rarely (the last was alive disc in 2004) and still performing near his current homebase in Los Angeles. When we caught him at South by Southwest five years ago, his stirring voice was intact– more so than the guy who did join Led Zeppelin– and he raised the roof on a stripped-down set, with just a piano for accompaniment. Take the chance to see him, they don’t come along often.  (Another notable Terry, recent Internet sensation Terry McDermott will open the show).
