The Southern Psychedelia of Quarx and Their Trippy New Video

What do you get when you combine players from the Baton Rogue blues scene, straight rock n’ rollers, and add a heavy metal and hardcore drummer for good measure? The answer is: Quarx.

Born in the swamps of Baton Rouge, Quarx took form in 2017 as the product of Alaric Fricke’s songwriting. The vocalist and rhythm guitarist was not long after joined by Jonathan Zeringue on bass, Keagan Soto on lead guitar, and Thomas Vercher on drums. With each member of the band of bringing in their unique influences and interests – Fricke from a Southern and improvisational rock background, Zeringue as a straight rock’n’roll bassist, Soto as an experience player on Baton Rouge’s blues scene, and Vercher as a hardcore and metal drummer – they came to produce their sound.

Known around these parts for having played with The Iceman Special at spots like Howlin’ Wolf, Quarx has just released a music video for the track, “Evil Has Died.” The hazy swirling video is paired up against Fricke’s vox which sound like a throwback to Andrew Wood of the Seattle grunge band, Mother Love Bone, and the modern psych/doom outfit Thunder Creek.

“Evil Has Died” is the first single off the new Quarx record, name TBA, which will be released on all streaming platforms including Tidal, Apple Music, and Spotify on November 25. Visit their Bandcamp here.
