Tipitina’s announces all-star tribute to R&B legend Earl King

Tipitina’s will present Covered In Earl: A Tribute to Earl “Trickbag” King, on Wednesday, November 24, at 8 p.m. This is the third installment of tributes presented by Tipitina’s and produced by Sonny Schneidau, which previously included The Professor Longhair 100th Birthday Tribute and a Tribute to Dr. John. George Porter, Jr., a longtime collaborator of King’s, will lead an all-star cast of New Orleans’ finest musicians and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic (NOMC).

Guitarist Earl King (1934–2003) was one of New Orleans’ most prolific rhythm-and-blues songwriters for more than four decades. In addition to being an incendiary live performer, his songs “Big Chief,” “Come On (Let The Good Times Roll),” “Make A Better World” and “Street Parade” have been performed by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Boz Scaggs, Professor Longhair, Dusty Springfield, Dr. John, Freddie King, Willie Tee, Lee Dorsey and many others.

The evening will feature performances by Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne, Deacon John, Jon Cleary, Samantha Fish, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Stanton Moore, John “Papa” Gros, Tony Hall, Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, Brint Anderson and more. Serving as the bandleader for the evening, George Porter, Jr. will be joined by Herlin Riley, David Torkanowsky, Kyle Roussel, Chris Adkins, Tony Dagradi, Brad Walker, Tracy Griffin, and Jeff Albert. For this special night, legendary MC Rickie Castrillo will return to his long-tenured position as Tipitina’s master of ceremonies.

The New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic has provided medical care to musicians and performing artists in New Orleans for more than 20 years. They offer occupational and comprehensive health services for musicians, artists, performers, cultural workers, tradition bearers of New Orleans (Mardi Gras Indians, Social Aid & Pleasure Club Members), service industry workers and more. They serve any patient over the age of 19 and their family, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

A limited number of discounted “early bird” tickets will be available by subscribing to the Tipitina’s mailing list found on the club’s homepage. General admission tickets will go on sale Friday, October 8, at 10 a.m. CST. To view the full calendar, and for more information, please visit Tipitinas.com.
