Tipitina’s plans fundraising concert to aid drummer Willie Green

Tipitina’s will host a benefit on Monday, May 9, for the legendary former drummer of The Neville Brothers, “Mean” Willie Green. Proceeds from this event will go directly to assist Green whose retirement has been made difficult by recent medical expenses.

Performances for the night will include The New Orleans Suspects, The New Orleans Klezmer All Stars and a very special set featuring a rotating cast of drummers from around the city. Additional guests will be added and announced closer to the date of the event. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are available now at Tipitinas.com. Boiled crawfish will sold by Parish Seafood Company on a first come, first served basis.

Attendees are encouraged to make donations to a longtime veteran and admired performer in the New Orleans music community.

A GoFundMe has been set up and is currently accepting donations for those fans who want to show their support but are unable to attend the concert in person. To donate, or for more information, please visit the crowdfunding website.

Green is a hard-hitting New Orleans superstar who sat behind the drum kit for decades with the one and only Neville Brothers. Creating his own unique style of percussion, Green’s drumbeats are recognized worldwide. He played with many of the greatest musicians of our time, including The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan.

Tipitina’s is one of New Orleans’ most iconic music venues of all time. Started in 1977 by a group of young music lovers, Tipitina’s has stood the test of time as one of the premier clubs in the country by featuring some of the most celebrated musicians not just from New Orleans, but from around the globe.
