Tipitina’s will host concert to benefit Ukrainian refugees

Tipitina’s will host a benefit concert on Wednesday May 25, at 7 p.m. that will raise funds to help Ukrainian war refugees. The musical lineup for the benefit concert will feature Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns, Leyla McCalla, Muevelo and Honey Island Swamp Band. All funds raised from the benefit concert will go to the New Orleans-based nonprofit organization KRYLA, and the Ukrainian-based nonprofit organization Community Self Help. KRYLA, formed by Ukrainian Americans in New Orleans and their allies, aims to bring humanitarian aid and specialized medical supplies to Ukraine.

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine nears its third month, more than 12 million people have been displaced from their homes. Untold numbers of Ukrainians are in dire need as they seek to flee to safety and out of harm’s way, and rebuild their lives. KRYLA is spearheading the New Orleans Ukrainian Resettlement Group, which will support newly arrived Ukrainian asylum seekers in metro New Orleans. Community Self Help works directly with refugee shelters in Lviv and sends critical medical aid to combat zones.

Tipitina’s is located at 501 Napoleon Avenue. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30. For more information on the concert, visit tipitinas.com, or contact Boyanna Trayanova at [email protected].
