Les Misérables returns to New Orleans

Tony Award-winning musical ‘Les Misérables’ is back in town

Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel Les Misérables was given new life when it became a Tony Award-winning musical in 1987 (and Tony-nominated in 2014). Following 19th-century French peasant Jean Valjean, it’s a story of retribution and revolution, two themes familiar to New Orleanians.

On Tuesday, January 8, “Les Miz” returns to town for eight shows at the Saenger Theatre. Presented by Cameron Mackintosh, the new production features new staging and reimagined scenery. The role of Valjean is played by Nick Cartell, while Josh Davis plays Javert. Click here for a full cast of the touring production.

Tickets for most of the performances begin around $65. There are 7:30 p.m. shows on January 8, 9 and 10; 8 p.m. shows on January 11 and 12; a 2 p.m. show on January 12; and shows at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on January 13. Click here for tickets to all available performances.

Les Misérables remains the longest-running musical in the world and the original is now in its 34th year in London.
