Travis “Trumpet Black” Hill Benefit Set For 5/19

Update: Hill’s body returned to the US last night and funeral services have been announced, see here.

Tomorrow night, Cafe Istanbul will host a benefit for Travis “Trumpet Black” Hill‘s mother in the aftermath of the young musician’s untimely death in Japan on Monday, May 4th.

After two weeks of working through extensive government processes, the return of Hill’s remains is finally underway, and the services will be announced shortly.

The concert, being put together by Hill’s cousin James Andrews, will take the form of a “brass jam”, and what a jam indeed.

Performers are subject to change, but the stellar lineup at the moment includes Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Rebirth, the Dirty Dozen, the Bucktown All-Stars, Kermit Ruffins, New Breed Brass Band, and Andrews’ own Crescent City Allstars.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and cost $25.
