Trombone Shorty, Mutemath, Hugh Laurie on TV

Tonight, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will make another TV appearance on CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in support of their new album, For True. For those who can’t get enough Shorty, he’ll also appear Thursday on NPR online as part of its Tiny Desk Concert series.

Mutemath will release its new album, Odd Soul, on October 4. Yesterday, MTV debuted the band’s new single, “Blood Pressure,” directed by drummer Darren King. Here it is:

Hugh Laurie, the star of the darkly funny medical drama House, will appear in his piano player guise on Hugh Laurie: Let Them Talk – A Celebration of New Orleans Blues airs on PBS’ Great Performances Friday at 9 p.m. CT. The show is part concert, part tribute to New Orleans, and it’s inspired by his recent musical tribute to New Orleans, Let Them Talk.

The album was partially recorded at Piety Street Recording in the Bywater with appearances by Dr. John and Irma Thomas, and horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint. Thomas and Toussaint will appear on the show, as will Sir Tom Jones, who was similarly inspired by American blues music.

Let Them Talk debuted at No. One on the Billboard Blues Chart and No. 16 on the Top 200.
