Trombone Shorty postpones Treme Threauxdown

Though he had initially planned to proceed with a Treme Threauxdown concert at the Saenger Theater in spite of the cancellation of a first-ever fall edition of Jazz Fest, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has postponed the event, due to both resurgence of COVID-19 infections and the fallout of Hurricane Ida. A separate concert known as Shorty Fest will continue as planned at Tipitina’s.

In a Facebook post on September 10, Andrews wrote, “We are heartbroken to announce that the Treme Threauxdown on October 9 is being postponed until Saturday, April 30, 2022, to coincide with next year’s New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In the wake of Hurricane Ida and the ongoing public health situation, we’ve come to realize that Trombone Shorty and the band will not be able to safely rehearse and perform with multiple guest stars from around the country, or to safely assemble the crew, support staff and other personnel needed for a show of the Threauxdown’s scale. To create the type of Threauxdown that fans have come to expect, we will need to wait until 2022.

“The Threauxdown is the headline show we look forward to the most every year, but it wouldn’t be the same without our special guests, and we cannot wait to do it again the right way next year during Jazz Fest.”

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Refunds are also available for the next 30 days at the point of purchase.

Trombone Shorty will go forward with Shorty Fest on October 11 at Tipitina’s, a concert that raises funds for the Trombone Shorty Foundation to inspire the next generation of musicians through music education, instruction, mentorship and performance. Scheduled acts include Galactic with Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, The Soul Rebels, Cuban sensation Cimafunk and special guests Tarriona “Tank” Ball and Big Chief Juan Pardo.
