WWOZ presents virtual Piano Night as part of Festing in Place programs

Update: Watch the 2021 WWOZ Piano Night in its entirety on the video below.

Piano Night has become a fan-favorite fixture of nighttime entertainment options beyond the gates of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival since 1988. The flagship fundraiser for WWOZ brings together the most skilled of jazz pianists for a repeatedly sold-out concert like no other. For the second year in a row, Piano Night will be virtual due to restrictions imposed by the pandemic. The program will be broadcast on Monday, April 26, at 7 p.m. at wwoz.org or on the radio at 89.9 in metro New Orleans.

Twenty three musicians are on the lineup, including Jon Cleary, Ivan Neville, Marcia Ball, Davell Crawford, Oscar Rossignoli, Joe Krown, Jesse McBride, Joe Ashlar, Keiko Komaki, Kyle Roussel, Lilli Lewis, John “Papa” Gros, Yoshitaka Tsuji (Z2), Josh Paxton, CR Gruver, Mari Watanabe, Tom McDermott, Tom Worrell, Kris Tokarski, Larry Sieberth, and Michael O’Hara “The Sheik.”

In a statement issued by WWOZ, the station announced: “By going virtual we are able to open our doors and make seats to welcome thousands of guests who never would have been able to all fit in the same room together … Last year over 4,000 New Orleans piano fans watched the show live with us, and more than 150,000 people enjoyed the show in the weeks that followed. ”
