Zachary Richard will release a new single, “Heart Like an Eagle,” on April 24, with proceeds benefiting veterans’ support organization Wounded War Heroes.
The song was inspired and co-written by retired U.S. Army Major Barry Guidry and serves as a tribute to military veterans and their service. Revenue from the track will go toward programs supporting veterans facing ongoing physical and mental health challenges.
The Lafayette-based nonprofit provides assistance and care to veterans in need.
The single arrives amid a busy stretch for Richard, who continues to balance new music with literary projects and touring. In January 2025, he released his 22nd album, Handicap Bonheur, a collaborative project with his grandson Émile Cullin that supports the Montreal-based Centre Philou, which serves families of children with severe disabilities.
Richard has also expanded his work as an author. His sixth poetry collection, Transfo, was published in September 2025, following his 2023 novel Les Rafales du Carême, a historical work set in post–Civil War Louisiana.
Earlier this year, Richard performed at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. as part of the international Journées de la Francophonie, in a program attended by French First Lady Brigitte Macron.
He will debut “Heart Like an Eagle” live during upcoming Louisiana performances before heading to Canada and France later this year.
