Parts of the Problem

I fear that people don’t take environmental issues seriously until they’re in their own backyard as the Deepwater Horizon disaster is in ours. For example, who here knew about the leak in the Niger delta? But it doesn’t help when there’s a protest in Jackson Square and the issues and arguments take a backseat to the observation that Spike Lee was there.

I’m on vacation, and beyond Lee’s presence, it has been tough to find much coverage of anything actually said, including from The Times-Picayune (the only coverage of it I found at Nola.com is this photo spread). To their credit, WGNO put its story online, but I had to go to YouTube, Humid Beings and NOLA Femmes to see real reflections of anger and a list of demands. Why is that (and I recognize that a possible answer is that the organizers gave them the demands)?
