Betsy Braud and the Jazz Nurse Perscription, Just What the Doctor Ordered (Independent)

Betsy Braud plays as many instruments as she has daughters, sings in at least
two different languages and really is a registered nurse. Where she found time
to record a second album is beyond me, but now Just What The Doctor Orderedis here to cure anyone afflicted with a jazz deficiency.

Braud’s CD contains 11 Latin-inspired jazz compositions that will incite
some to dance. Others will simply enjoy the swanky sounds of “Kinda Monkish” and
the energizing beat of “Bunny Girls Bop.” Braud gets credit for two
songs herself, including, “Sure Had a Positive Influence Rave On” [sic]
and “Gotta Get Hip,” which both showcase her piano playing.

Just What The Doctor Ordered is emotionally and musically complex, but clearly
expressed. Braud moves easily from flute to piano to soprano saxophone and
sings in between. Her team of musicians play around and along with each other,
instead
of on top of each other, which I bet is a side effect of Braud’s background
in nursing, and it makes for a pleasant listening experience.
