Here’s a basic rule of thumb for all musicians: Don’t be shown up by your guests. Jimmy McIntosh has Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck (billed as “Hot Rod”), “Mean” Willie Green and Art, Cyril and Ivan Neville in the band or sitting in as guests, and all make a greater impression than McIntosh, leaving listeners to wonder, “Who is this guy?” That’s not good question. (The answer, by the way, is a musician from Las Vegas).

 

The music is predictably funky—how would it not be?—but the only track I could remember moments after it was finished was “Slave,” and that’s because it’s a Rolling Stones cover. A second note for all musicians: Don’t be shown up by your covers.
